Vocational training (FP) classes in GavΓ , Barcelona, in the afternoons; tools, sensors and home servers the rest of the day. If it's repetitive, I script it. If it has a chip, I'm interested.
I'm the head of the IT & Communications Department at Institut El Calamot (GavΓ , Barcelona), where I teach cybersecurity in the ASIC higher vocational program (CFGS). All offensive and defensive security labs run in isolated environments at the school.
Computing classes, educational robotics, training for other teachers and teaching websites that help things click:
From the abacus to AI β computing in 26 objects (in Spanish) β
Atlas of machines (in Spanish) β
Meeting transcripts with speakers identified, minutes that write themselves, and models running on my own hardware β from my laptop's NPU to a Mac mini. The cloud, only when it earns its place.
If I've done it twice, I script it: grading, meeting minutes, integrations between educational platforms and deployments with Ansible. Hours of admin handed back to what matters.
Home Assistant as the brain of the house: sensors everywhere, the indoor climate tamed and alerts that reach the right place. If it has a remote control, it can be automated.
ESP8266 microcontrollers measuring the world, custom-designed enclosures printed in 3D, and the odd gadget rescued with a soldering iron.
VPS and home servers: web, virtual classroom, project manager and synced files without depending on anyone. Backups that check themselves. My data, my machines.
Many of these experiments end up at Orenetalabs, my lab π§ͺ
Shall we talk teaching, automation or gadgets?
hola@carlosserrano.devI reply better than my scripts do, just slower.
